In the past year we have:

  • Made over 90 financial grants construction, capital items, and running expenses:

    • Sanctuaries

    • Rehabilitation centres
    • Lion parks, seal rescue centres, kangaroo and wild horse sanctuaries
    • The arts - music and ballet
    • Animal birth control and release programs
    • Ambulances
    • Medical and veterinary supplies
    • Fuel, Food, Electricity and medicines
    • Rescue and rehabilitation for Police equines
    • Oncology wards, trauma and triage units in hospitals
  • Addressed audiences ranging from 50 to 6,000 people covering diverse subjects from the environment, ethics, human and animal rights, climate change, the arts, health, water, literature, refugees, economics and human diet.
  • Invested heavily in capital assets to improve the amenity and efficiency of Kindness House of our guests.
  • Actively promoted the exemplary work of the guests in Kindness House to our vast network of contacts in the corporate and not-for-profit world.
  • Kindness House is located in the centre of bustling Fitzroy, the music capital of Australia. To promote the art of young musicians and performs we have constructed the large “Kindness House What’s on Wall” displaying pictures and promotional material on their “gigs”.
  • Installed external floodlights at night which has proven to attract a large number of young people using the display as a source of information. We have entered into a contract with a professional organisation Plakkit, to maintain the site and replace all the promotional material every week.
  • Improved operational protocols within the building:
    • installed free internet and email
    • doubled number of security patrols
    • installed new carpets, rugs, blinds, curtains, and cushions
    • Installed 50 large framed pictures in public spaces within the building
    • repainted and recarpeted a number of individual offices
    • replaced 300+ light globes with energy efficient units,
    • fully insulated the entire building,
    • installed steel gantries, walkways, and handrails on the roof for the occupational health and safety of our tradespeople and contractors
    • installed 36 internal windows to improve natural lighting
    • Installed 22 skylights to bring in natural light
    • Installed 8 “whirlybirds” to extract heat from the building
    • replastered and repainted walls in the rear foyer
    • repainted the lift and stairwells in bright colours
    • repainted the training, media, and relaxation areas in bright, inspiring colours.
  • Cleaned cobblestones in rear laneway
  • Commissioned the painting of attractive murals by “street artists” who then renamed the street “Kindness Lane”.
  • Laid asphalt strip along the cobblestone lane to provide wheelchair access to the lift for people with disabilities.
  • Engaged in robust debate with industry, politicians, local council, the media and consumers - urging them to adopt ethical, compassionate and sustainable policies and practices.
  • Reconfigured the dynamics and operations of Kindness House
  • Engaged an independent consultant in conjunction with the Yarra City Council to conduct a significant energy efficiency audit of Kindness House. (We passed with flying colours with the observation that there was nothing we more that we could have done to reduce the carbon footprint of this iconic building. The Mayor of the City of Yarra presented us with a certificate acknowledging our efforts to reduce the carbon footprint in the community).
  • We have welcomed new friends to the Kindness Campus. They will add considerably to the energy and excitement of Kindness House - and launch their initiatives from a home base that shares their passion for getting good things done.
